Change of Plans

I had every intention of doing my taxes today. The weather turned to crap just in time for the weekend, and I really thought a nice easy spin in my rollers would be about all the cycling I'd need on this fine day. Well, you know you wouldn't be reading this if it were a story about me doing my taxes.

Just as I sat down with sharpened pencil in hand my phone rings. It's Boz.

Hey, I'm just around the corner from you. Wanna ride?

Now I ask you, is there any possible way to say no to that question?

The plan called for an hour or two of moderate paced riding. Climbing too. I had the perfect route in mind. When Boz arrived we mounted up and headed out into the snow and cold and wind. Temperature at ride time was 28°F with a steady 12 mph wind which felt more like 30. The snow wasn't really snow so much as tiny ice pellets. Fortunately we didn't get much of that.

Along the way we only encountered 2 other groups of riders - only two. Justin M. and another were probably about half way through a hundred miler. And we saw the twins flash by as we climbed Ossenfort Rd.

Also along the way Boz introduced me to Woodland Meadows Drive, a devilish little private subdivision road that plummets deep into a valley and climbs back out the other side. The grade there is reportedly 24% for a stretch. I think I may know of one steeper, but when they're this steep it's only academic. You pedal squares, and if you push too hard your front wheel comes off the ground.

We covered a little over 30 miles, which was just about perfect given the conditions.

Oh, and that photo. That's Boz. He said he was fading a bit toward the end of our ride...

Yeah it was cold, enough to fog the lens.

and the taxes... They're looking more and more like a DNS today.

Good Ride for Sure

Thanks for answering the phone and more importantly, for taking it easy up the hills. I was definitely tapped out at the end of the ride, but that was just what the body needed. Epic ride for sure.

Plenty more

It's going to be a good year. One with plenty more great rides.

I'm really looking forward to the warm up this week. Could not have come at a better time. Now it's time for the real training to begin.
