5k Run is Like?

Did a 5k run/race this morning. It felt like a Cyclocross race in some ways. The slow increase in fatigue and effort mostly. But there's not as much to think about when you run. You don't worry about a smooth path around the course and taking the fastest way around the turns. Also, no stand up and grind like you do on a cross bike when you come to a hill. Finished in 23 minutes. Not bad for an old fart I suppose. Now I have something to shoot for too.

Pose?

Hey you have to give us the lowdown on how the Pose method worked out for you.

It Works (I think)

I have been focusing on implementing what I understand about the POSE method in my running. For the 5k, I tried to do what I could but to a certain extent, when you are in a race, you just have to focus on what is natural and try to persevere to the finish. The things that I have tried to focus on in training so far are:
Try to land on the balls of your feet and avoid a heal strike.
Use short strides and a fast cadence.
Use gravity (fall forward) and don't do a muscular grab with your feet.

In training I have noticed some difference. HR is lower but I am not as fast at this point. I think there is definitely something to it and I am going to keep working on it. If nothing else, it makes running more interesting and it gives me something technical to think about. Just the thing for a geek like me!

See my report on the run for more details.
