Hey guys, happy freakin new year! I've been on a hiatice for a bit. Alot of things going on, coupled by a whole lotta nothing. The holidays were crazy, and then a week later I was headed off to Winter Park, Colorado for so sweet boarding and relaxing.
We left on the 6th and got to Winter Park early Sunday morning. Just in time to hit the lifts up as they opened. Sunday was a very unique day for me. I had practiced a half dozen times up in KC boarding, but it was far from getting me prepared for these "hills." I was stoked when we first arrived, crazy high mountains and fresh powder. What could be better. I did pretty good, hit a few crazy jumps, a 5 footer drop, and even got mixed in with a nasty black run that pretty much kicked my butt.
We then checked into the room, which was very plush but unfortunatly packed sinces they stuck too many people in them. The next four days were spent shreading fresh powder. It snowed every night so the riding in the morning was superb. This was my first time in Colorado during the winter, and it was an eye opener. Wow the weather sucks! But I could get used to it, very quickly.
I went with my friend John who taught me how to snowboard. Overall it was a great trip, awesome times. I did have a little screw up on the very last day though. We spent the last day getting some serious air and hitting the rails up at the terrain park. We'll I was getting kinda cocky as usual and decided to try a little trick. I was coming in switch, which is opposite of the normal stance, on a rail and I was going to 180 out on the other side. Well the first time I almost pulled it off. Then on the second I got a little sideways and ended up busting my shin on the rail. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until I got down to the lift and lifted my pants. I had what they called a "blowout". I basically had a hole in my skin. It was nasty and looking back I wish I had taken a picture. You could move it a bit to the side and see my shin bone. It was awesome. It actually put a little slit in both my sweatpants and my snowboard pants. So 4 stitches later and I was fine. Just a little pain in the wallet, that's all : )
Here's a few pics, we didn't take many and most didn't turn out with our cheap throw away camera. Overall I had a blast, and I can't wait to go back. I'm almost afraid to say, but I think I prefer boarding over biking. Mainly cause I don't get to do it much, and it's so f*ing fun!

Airing it out!
Blowout = Pinch flat
Dude you pinch flatted your leg. I bet that felt good.
Looks like you had a terrific time. Did you hike any trails while you were out there? I hear snowshoeing is some tough workout.
No hiking
I had enough of that during last summers trip. Actually I'm still paying the consequence with a bum knee. It's a lot better now, but a pack that didn't fit and some crazy climbing and decending did horrors on my left knee when we went. I'd like to do some day hiking though, but that backcountry stuff was rough. It would have been alot better if I had my own pack that was adjusted correctly...
