Aches and pains and beer

Mark EWERS's picture

That was an easy choice. Not one I'd make under ordinary circumstances, especially given the weather we had here today. I think I saw the thermometer reporting low 60's here today. Who knows what the real high was. Who cares! It's January. Last week we were in the single digits.

Oh, that choice? It was in favor of Mr. Beezer there. In spite of all the Ibuprofen coursing through my veins I'm just too stiff and sore from my tumble the other night.

Today was the bad day. I'm certain tomorrow will be much improved. For now though, it feels like the day after a car wreck. I have pulled and strained muscles in places I didn't know I had muscles. Most worrisome, my right shoulder and collarbone. When I tried the "lift your arms" test Friday night all seemed OK. Saturday was somewhat painful but manageable. Today it's a little worse, particularly the collarbone.

One thing for sure, if it's broken it's not broken bad. I'll let Mother Nature and Johnson & Johnson take care of it. I do believe it will not prevent me from riding.

Maybe tomorrow for me? Incredibly, the weather tomorrow's supposed to be even better than today. Being Monday and all, it might be tough to get out and enjoy. I sure hope even a short ride is possible though. Tuesday's supposed to be a steep slide back into winter.

BEER!

I'm down 9 pounds since deciding I needed to seriously slim down in mid - December. I hate to say it but a main piece of the weight loss plan and has been a near total moratorium on beer.

Careful with the collar-bone. If it doesn't heal well it can cause long-term residual irritation/discomfort.

Beer is good

Nine pounds, that's pretty good. That should help you attain your 2008 climbing goal more easily. Maybe you should state that goal on a sliding scale as a function of weight. (only kidding, of course)

Beer... Well, in my defense, I don't drink nearly as much of it now as I did in college. :) Actually if I'm going to drink anything, most times it's wine. I might drink a beer a week on average. This week I had two.

Statisticians would be quick to point out that I doubled consumption in a week's time.

Collarbone... Probably good advice. If the pain keeps up, or if I do anything stupid and make it hurt even more I'll call the doctor. If I do I imagine I'll be told to take it easy and possibly sold an arm sling. That would probably be advice well taken. After all, it was my doctor's advice to drink my wine and occasional beer.

Too bad

Hope the shoulder gets better. I've taken some hard spills over the years and have had my fair share of bruised shoulders and bum collarbones. You know your body well though, and usually the next day after the spill is always the worst. Hope its heals quick!

Getting better quickly

Mark EWERS wrote 2 years 7 weeks ago

Thanks G. Things are improving by the day. I'm surprised at how the aches and pains move around though. What hurt the most on Sunday was different from what hurt the most yesterday. Today it's different still.

The good news is nothing still hurts so badly that I think I should go see a doctor about it. All is getting better; and in a few days it'll all be behind me.
