A Personal Record type of day

It sure is great to post up here with some good news once in a while! Since I am not into racing much anymore, and I have no electronics on my bike, I only have my clock, my relative perceived effort, and my route distance to gage performance.

Today must have been a personal best (in recent years at least). I finished one of my typical routes in a lot less time than usual today. Not only that but I found myself humming along zipping up the hills comfortably in larger gears than usual. Could it be my fitness is not totally lost after all?

The most interesting thing about this ride is the precursors. I have traditionally found that my best performances come when I least expect them. Today I expected a leisure ride since I had two good hard rides in the past few days, and I slept only a few hours last night (4 hours topps). I can not explain this, but it seems like it always works out that way (good performances when poorly rested). I do not recommend trying it on purpose, but there may be a lesson in here (don't automatically bail on a ride becasue you feel sleepy).

One last cool thing about today. When I crossed the overpass in Elston there was a coal train coming. I stopped and watched it grind by. Something about all that power is motivating.

I could estimate what my average speed was for this ride, but that is really not important. I just wanted to post up some good news and new found hope/motivation for a great riding season ahead. Hopefully it will motivate you to get out and enjoy a ride...at any pace that feels good!

Easy and fun

While you were out hammering I was out riding easy and having a fun day of it. You must have picked up on some of my extra energy - the energy I didn't use.

Happy to hear you had a good one and that fitness hasn't gone out completely. As if you thought it might!
