Today's story is about pushing one's luck. In this case, just a little too far.
Dave, Jordan and I set out this morning to pre-ride the state road race course. None of us had seen it so we wanted to get a look at it before next week's race.
A quick look at the weather before heading out showed we'd be OK. Sun would turn to clouds, which would turn to thunderstorms later in the afternoon. No problem, we thought. That gives us plenty of time to ride it. Twice even.
The good news is we got one loop in. Light rain started as we rolled past the start/finish, so we headed for the car for an Internet check on weather radar. The bad news was revealed. The green band of light rain would be quickly followed by a yellow band of less-light rain, and a red band of not light at all rain would follow that.
We loaded up the bikes and headed out of town.
On the drive back we noticed we were driving out from under the storm. We decided we'd outrun it and get some more miles in back home. That's where our luck ran out.
No more than we landed, unloaded the bikes and clipped in the clouds opened up.
We did 20 minute's punishment for pushing our luck a little too far, then packed our bikes up for good and called it a day.
Not a bad day though. A bit over 200 TSS for me on the day; and at an IF=0.91. Not bad at all.
