The 60 Minute TimeTrial that never was

Some days are better than others. Today was one of those others.

I've been feeling pretty good on the bike lately. My answer to the standard cyclist's "How's your training?" greeting has ranged from "Not bad at all" to "Really well" recently.

Things have been going so well in fact, I thought today might be a good day for one of my favorite workouts/tests, the 60 minute TT. For some reason though, the good workout streak seems to have ended yesterday without warning.

This 60 minute TimeTrial felt like cold sweaty death right from the start. Many times starting out is hard. The legs feel crusty and lifeless. Usually that goes away after a while. When that happens I get to enjoy what feels like a long stretch of fresh asphalt with a slight tailwind. That is until the misery of fatigue sets in.

Today I went straight from crusty and lifeless to miserable. What a slog.

I bet I looked at the clock 50 times in the last 20 minutes.

So how'd my 60 minute TimeTrial work out in wattage terms? Five lousy watts low, that's how. Worse, I only made it 58 minutes and 41 seconds! Somehow my misery must have taken over my brain and convinced me I was 1:19 further along.

I think I'll call this the TT that never was.
