2008 Missouri State Timetrial Photos

Thanks to Unit and help from friends and family, I have a wealth of photos from Sunday's MO State Timetrial. Here are a few of the more interesting ones.

As I get time to put more effort into this I'll try to post up more of them. Until I was on the receiving end of nearly 2GB of high resolution photos I thought more photos would always be better. Now that I have over 300 to sort through I'm not so sure.

That's me, outbound. Looking strong, for the time being.

Andy's more aero than I am. He's got more power too.

This is me negotiating the line of corvettes who stopped at the turnaround to have a chat with the official. I got yelled at pretty good for crossing the center line to avoid getting doored. Needless to say, all the practicing I did to make sure I had a smooth and fast turn didn't help me much that day.

The turnaround. Andy overshot it by a bit. The markings in the road were a bit confusing. He saw the line and decided he needed to cross it to get the full distance. Makes sense if you think about it. Why else put a line there? Maybe it's out of bounds?

Just get me home, Andy. I'm doing what I can; but It hurts so bad.

Look at the shadows

Especially the photo of you guys on the tandem. There is little wonder why you got dehydrated.

The sun is directly overhead.
You get no breeze to cool you behind the pilot.
You are cramped in like a sardine.

Heat index at tandem start

According to my hand-held weather station, the heat index was 104 deg F when we rolled out...I don't know how high it got, but I'm thinking now that it would have been interesting to have mounted it on your bars and carried it along with us on the bike!

and no cooling from the wind

I had a raging debate going in my head during our race. Is it better to keep my head down and pedal at reduced power due to overheating in the relatively calm air back there, or will we get finished faster if by raising my head and scooping air I might cool off a bit and enable myself to pedal harder.

On the couple of occasions I raised my head to see where we were and settled the debate. There was no cooling effect from the wind.

Hot day for sure

I'm still reeling from the heat on Sunday. You aren't kidding when you said it was hot. I never saw people clear out so fast after. Everyone wanted to go find someplace cool. Well done dude. Two killer efforts in one epic day.

TSB planner???

Enjoy your site and was hoping to use the TSB planner for next year. Am I screwing up or is it still available somewhere on your site.

best regards,

Les Akins
