Wood is good

I had a little extra time yesterday evening - or so I thought, but that's another story - so I headed over to Castlewood park for a little trail action. My plan was to ride for about an hour nice and easy like. My landscaping epic the evening before really took the wind out of my sails.

I hadn't ridden very long before I noticed I was catching and passing, being caught and passed, and just plain encountering a lot more cyclists in the park than usual. Encountering them coming the other way isn't unusual but so many going my way? Something was up.

The reason behind the traffic was the race this Saturday:

National City Castlewood Classic

Lots of people out for a Tuesday night pre-ride, getting used to the trail conditions.

Speaking of which, they're in just about perfect shape. There were a few wet spots and a few washes, but no show stoppers. It's amazing how fast a well-designed trail dries out.

My one hour laid-back trail ride turned into something more of an hour long hammer session. Trying to stay ahead of or keep up with the crowd was just too irresistible. I definitely got in a good workout. Castlewood has a challenging lineup of trails and riding them with the throttle full open was a lot of fun. A bit more of a test than I wanted, or really needed yesterday, but as far as I'm concerned whatever I do on my bike is a good thing.
