Too hot to handle

Fire it up. Wow. The weather man promised 96° out there today and that's what we got. I'm still waiting for the final judges score on the heat index or whatever they're calling it these days.

You better believe I wore my flame resistant bibs for this one. Must be I'm getting too old for this much heat because it really took its toll on performance. I kept wattages down across the board so the power numbers were about as expected. Perceived exertion was through the roof however.

Not that I'm kicking myself over it by any means. What would be the point of that? I'd probably just fall down trying. Seriously though, with plenty of TSS in my legs this week already and a bit of back pain to show for it - yes, not better yet, still struggling with it - I knew the big watts would elude me today anyway. I just didn't think it'd suck this bad.

My plan was to spin easily on rolling terrain for as long as my legs or the 70 oz. of ice and water in my Camelbak lasted. Whichever went first didn't matter. When I could tell one or the other was about done it would be time to head for the barn.

The first half of the ride was not so bad. Somewhere around an hour in the suffering kicked in. A quick check on the water supply. Right, about a half hour's worth. I angled it on back and ran out of water about 5 minutes from the finish. I love it when a good plan comes together.

Here's numbers - wattage, TSS, IF... all that good stuff - from the ride:

 Entire workout (219 watts):
	Duration: 1:36:51
	Work: 1275 kJ
	TSS: 119 (intensity factor 0.859)
	Norm Power:	228
	VI: 1.04
	Distance: 51.533 km

		        Min	Max	Avg
	Power: 0	487	219 watts
	Cadence: 1	117	88 rpm
	Speed: 0	73.5	31.9 kph
	Pace 0:49	0:00	1:53 min/km
	Crank Torque:	0	71	24.1 N-m
