I've been looking forward to tonight since that first cold one last Friday. Tonight is another Castlewood night ride.
The unit will be headed this way in the afternoon sometime. We'll give the bikes - His is a rigid single speed Surly Karate Monkey 29er painted primer and brown with gawd-awful custom decals. Mine's a rigid single speed Surly Karate Monkey 29er with stock black paint and factory decals and lots of scratches - a once over to lay off as much risk of an on-the-trail mechanical as possible, grab some eats, layer on some of the latest high-tech fabric technology Wal-Mart has to offer and head for the trails.
I have to give props to the good folks at Castlewood. I'll have to ask why they do this because I'm not aware of any other park in the area where they go so far out of their way to accommodate the MTB crowd. We're all thankful they do though.
The weather has been iffy this week. It's been rainy and cool with little or no wind. One day earlier this week we were treated to a steady all day long rain. I had been afraid the trails would be saturated. Fortunately, advance scouting reports indicate good trail conditions. Looks like we're on!
It will be another chilly night, maybe not as cold as last week. Crisp. Temps are forecast in the upper 40's at ride time. Maybe some clouds but how will we know? We're two nights away from a new moon. It's going to be dark, really dark. Unlike last time, the park is requiring riders to have lights.
I have mine charging up, getting ready for battle.
The riding starts at 7pm and goes until 10pm. Hope to see you there.
