We got a late start, but we did get started. Just a friendly group of three out on the road tonight. Dan, Phil and me. My SRM shows I covered about 28 miles, but that counts the ride to and from the ride.
I don't think I could have picked a better group to ride with than this one tonight. Yesterday's strength and balance session took plenty of snap out of my legs. A hammer session probably would have been an exercise in frustration, so what I really wanted to see in tonight's ride was a good tempo session. And that's about exactly what it worked out to be.
I'm really starting to feel like I have this back injury thing behind me. I saw some decent wattages on the SRM while out on the road. Some were surprisingly high, but if you use a bicycle powermeter you know how deceptive that can be. Nevertheless I was anxious to find out how the power file looked when I got home, because what was really exciting was I was seeing these good wattage numbers but not feeling that old familiar back pain.
Of particular note: A 20 minute segment where Normalized Power came in right on top of my Functional Threshold Power. Or was it really? After all, I didn't have to dig for it.
Ah yeah, I'm really starting to like riding again.
