Hmm, I don't know what I was thinking. I had a tough day today. You know how some days you pretty much know you don't have it, but you go out and work out anyway? That's what I did today.
I had decent workouts on Monday and Tuesday. I used Wednesday as a recovery day. I didn't sleep well last night. I didn't feel all that great when I woke up this morning. See? If I'd thought this far before going out to try to test myself tonight I might have decided to lay it off. Then again, there's always this little voice that reminds you how you might end up having a great day despite how you feel when you start out. I listened to that voice today. Bad move. It was wrong.
All-in-all it wasn't the disaster you might think. The end results just aren't up to par. I did this same workout a month ago and averaged about 7 watts higher than I did tonight. Not a huge difference, and no doubt a lot of that difference can be explained by TSB differences and environmental factors.
There is one strange difference I've noticed in my analysis of these two power files: cadence. For some reason, tonight I chose to spin at a higher cadence than I did in last month's test. A full 12 RPM higher cadence. Trust me, that was completely self-selected. I have not been trying to train a higher cadence. For some reason, tonight my legs wanted to spin. Last month they wanted to mash.
Maybe this month they were feeling the miles a little more than they were last month, so they chose to substitute force with speed. Too bad wattage came out a loser in the exchange.
