Plan B: one more good effort before rest

It seems like only yesterday I said it was time to take it easy and rest up. Resting is exactly what I had in mind today until I looked at the forecast for this weekend. It looks like a significant chance of storms tomorrow. Sunday looks worse. Not only that but it's Father's Day weekend. The social event altert indicator was bumped from yellow to orange.

I decided to rework my plans even though that meant working when I need rest, when I didn't feel like it. Oh the things we do because we love riding a bicycle.

The one thought that kept returning to my mind as I rode through the stiffness and soreness was what it must feel like to do the Tour de France. Even though those guys ride bicycles for a living and an eight hour day in the saddle is, well, a day at the office like any other, I have to believe after a hard stage or three they get to feeling like I felt today. I wondered if they whine about it. I wondered how they protect themselves from being shot out the back when the legs feel like lead.

I wondered what thoughts occurred to them on days when distractions from the pain and discomfort are welcome. I imagine they think of the days, years down the path, when they're older cyclists like me. They imagine that if and when they get tired and sore they'll just take a day off.

Here's what the SRM recorded today. Not great but not bad, all things considered
