Let 'er rip

It's been almost a week doing this recovery thing, right? I mean, how long can I be expected to reign it in?

Peak 30min (249 watts):
	Duration: 30:00
	Work: 449 kJ
	TSS: 47.5 (intensity factor 0.975)
	Norm Power:	258
	VI: 1.04
	Distance: 15.36 km
			Min	Max	Avg
	Power: 0	396	249 watts
	Cadence: 27	118	82 rpm
	Speed: 8.6	76.3	30.7 kph
	Pace 0:47	6:59	1:57 min/km
	Crank Torque:	0	74.9	31.7 N-m

I just had to let it loose a little out there today. I slept well last night and woke up feeling primed and ready. Although not completely refreshed I just couldn't contain it. I had a need for some speed and suffering.

The wattage recorded by my SRM power meter cannot be denied. It was a good effort but not great by any means. Then again, I didn't exactly ride like it was a test. My back's been a pain since my business trip and the discomfort prevented me from really pouring it on.

Looking ahead... Temps for the weekend are predicted in the mid-90's. Now that could have an effect on power output.

A little??

Your power output here looks very good. Where did you do it and what were the conditions?

I'm having a lot of trouble besting my 30 minute average power from a year ago which is about 230 watts. Closest I've come this year is 226.

OK for an old guy

Good for an old guy you mean. Seriously though, thanks.

I just ride mostly around my home area. The routes vary a lot. Conditions? Mostly hot and windy these days. And mostly I ride alone in order to maximize the fitness benefit per unit of time.

Want to output more watts? Learn to get out and suffer all by yourself. If you can't inflict pain on yourself you won't be able to dish it out in a group.

Agree

Mark,

I totally agree about riding by yourself. I actually do 99% of my training alone. Group rides can be useful in some respects but the problem is loss of control. You just can't work on much specific (unless it's something related to group dynamics) unless you go it alone.

I have tried on at least three occasions in the last month or so to beat my 30 minute average and have not been able to do it. Getting a bit frustrated by that.

Average or Normalized?

Mark EWERS wrote 5 years 45 weeks ago

You're frustrated by not getting higher Average Power, or Normalized Power?

At that duration variability plays an important role. Protocol matters.

Average

bobber wrote 5 years 45 weeks ago

Low variability. This is while trying to set a PB cp 30. Steady and constant effort. NP is almost identical to AP.
