Good news and bad news about my attempt to get myself trained for the state TT next month.
The good news is I was able to push myself today for a 30 minute TT and my back only felt the strain briefly. I had a couple of moments in there when I let my concentration lapse. My pedaling jumped back into its old groove and *bang* just like that, back pain. Looking on the bright side, getting immediate feedback on poor technique isn't such a bad thing. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to maintain focus for an entire 40k TT.
Now for the bad news, and I have to say, it's bad. Where should I start?

If I could hold power output at a steady level say, 10 or so watts lower, I might (That's with a capital M) be able to go an hour. Unfortunately I don't have much confidence in my ability to hold power steady; and I know for sure I'd be climbing out of my skin trying to stay in the TT position twice as long as this.
When you don't train, it shows. It hurts too.
It's a Start
You have to start somewhere. Now you have a base line to work with. Might be time for us to try getting together for an FT workout. You up for going to JB Saturday morning?
My thoughts exactly
You're absolutely right. My primary reason for the TT workout was to establish a baseline against which I can measure progress.
And there had better be progress, else there won't be a TT. The next one had better be higher power given the suffer factor or the same power but with less suffering. I'd prefer the former.
Saturday morning? Sounds good to me. What do you have in mind?
Let's See
Have to wait and see how I feel tomorrow. I did a pretty hard 3x10 running set yesterday and I have a pretty bad headache today. Let's see how it goes tomorrow. But what I was thinking, if you are interested, is you could either come to my house and we could ride down to Jefferson Barracks or you could just meet me there. And once there, my plan is to do a 2x20. Riding from my house and including the workout ends up in about 40 miles or so.
Let me know what you think about that and if you have any other ideas. JB is a pretty good place if you get there before 10 or so. Hardly any traffic and a good 7 or 8 minute lap around the park. There are some inclines unfortunately but I have grown to like it and it works ok for me.
