I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Lately, for unknown reasons, my back problems seem to have let up quite a bit. I know I'm not totally out of the woods because every once in a while I get a little reminder. At the first hint of it flaring up again, I have a recommendation in hand for someone to call for help. Hopefully I won't need to make that call. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach. My wife says I should call anyway. That's a sure sign there's an "I told you you should have called..." down the road.
Have you read this book: Training and Racing with a Power Meter? If you're serious about training with a bicycle power meter you need this book. In there you'll find a workout recommendation known as the "Hour of Power." That's the workout I did today, or my own slight variation of it.
The Hour of Power workout is pretty simple: Ride at a steady state threshold power for an hour. At regular intervals stand and pedal for a short time. The standing parts are really good for keeping your, uh, parts, from going completely numb. I particularly like the Hour of Power workout because it keeps me moving around, which is good for my back.
My Hour of Power wattage today was right in the heart of my sweet spot. The Intensity Factor was 92%, a nice threshold workout on the trainer.
Did you ride today?
NO! I did not ride...thanks
NO! I did not ride...thanks for asking.
That HOP workout is a killer. I have no idea how you can do that! One hour of 92% intensity on a trainer, feels like 3 hours of 110% intensity on a real bike to me.
I can not bring myself to train indoors anymore. I guess that is why I am always an "also finished", or a "great supporting team mate".
You da man!
