How much TSS do I award myself for 18 holes of golf?
Yeah, probably not very much. Unless maybe if you factor in the sore muscles and sunburn. That's gotta count for something. Oh, and the blisters too. Golf. It's OK I guess. As long as you don't have ride to go on. Plus it beats working. Now, if I could get paid for playing golf... Nah, it still wouldn't beat out riding.
Interesting bit of business out there today. We discovered a distinct difference between golfers and bicycle riders out on the golf course today. First a little background to set the stage... Unit and I played in a charity golf tournament. It wasn't a big tournament. About 70-80 golfers played. The golf course guys must have figured that because the course wasn't completely full with our tournament they could put other golfers out to fill up the course. That's exactly what they did.
The trouble is the golf shop sent these guys out to the very same holes many of us were playing on. People make mistakes. Most times when they do the affected parties laugh it off and try to make the best of it. Rather than give us an "on your left" or "coming through", these other golfers literally drove their carts out in front of our groups and started playing as if we weren't even there. We were totally blown away. They acted as if we weren't even there.
My first thought was the stark difference between cyclists and golfers. Cyclists share the trail or the road. We help each other out of difficulty. We're genuinely concerned with each others' well-being and success while we're out there. No, not everyone and not every time; but in general we're good to each other.
Golfers are not good to each other. Can you imagine a golfer offering a glove or the use of a club to another golfer he's never met? Need a ball? Here you go pal... Need some help lining up that shot? Stuff you don't hear on the golf course.
I should have flattened one of the tires on his golf cart and offered him a patch kit and a 12g CO2 inflator.
I have to do the Charity
I have to do the Charity golf thing for work every year. Fortunately it is best ball so I don't look like too much of a schmo. I think the type of behavior you witnessed is more a lack of common courtesy than anything else. You should have drove into them! Golf is such an elitist sport. I think that is why I refuse to play more than a few times a year. Well, that and I'm really bad.
Once a year is about right
That's my deal too, once a year. My wife helps run the operation so you can bet I'm either a player or a worker.
Someone asked me if I'd been practicing my golf game during lunch before our start. My reply was that I'd just completed a practice round last June.
I still think...
We should have creased that dudes head when he walked not 5 feet in front of us on the tee box (that we were standing in with our clubs), plants his ball, and begins to address. It takes a pair of stones to pull that. There may have been 5 in that group, but they looked pretty ripe for a beating, and they did not appear very athletic. Of course, I am joking...do I condone violence nor would I needlessly wast efforts and time attempting to educate fools.
The best analogy I have found to cycling, is that guy that attacks on a club ride the moment you pull over to help the new guy fix a flat (the new guy that he brought to the ride...for his first club ride experience) ...yes, I have actually seen that one play out.
It is not a "golf" thing...or a "cycling" thing...it is a "stupid jerk" thing. It just seems to happen more on a golf course.
The pig enjoys it
Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You'll both get muddy but the pig will enjoy it.
I sold my golf clubs and bought a bike. Best trade I ever made.
That and...
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. All though I can say it would have been all I could take to not beat their asses. I would of def said something though. Stupid pricks, shoulda quitely snuck up behind they're cart and stole their clubs only to toss them in the lake while they tried to chase you down. Then again it was a charity event so I dont think you'da liked that kinda of attention...
