Man what a ride today was. it was one of those days when you have to shake your head and marvel about how wonderful it is to be in the woods on a bike. The top-down view is that I'm healthy and sane and well-off enough to have both a bike or three and the time to go out and ride. There were a few moments out there when I'd have traded the whole lot for a Cliff bar.
It's no matter that I couldn't seem to stay on the damn bike. I mean what is up with being unable to get in the zone? Possibly I was flogged from yesterday's ride and possibly going from road to trail takes more than a couple of rides to adjust. Possibly I'm just making excuses. Whatever the reason, I sucked. I think I banged up every joint at least once.
One fall in particular is going to leave me feeling like I was in a car accident. It was this slow motion affair over the top of a heap of logs. I have no idea exactly what happened. It was like I was spectating, watching the whole thing happening in slow motion from atop my bike, but without any control as if someone else was doing the steering. Up I went, to just over the top. Somehow then I managed to get off center and dropped the front wheel off the left side. This resulted in a semi-endo, landing me on my right shoulder and back just as the top rear of my helmet took a bite out of a two inch tree about half a foot above ground level. Yeah, that's gonna hurt some.
After the ride I got props for my bike. That's a good one - props to my bike. I got a nice laugh out of that.
I'll be better - riding, physically, mentally I hope. Recovery from all three of these things just takes longer but I will eventually recover. That's a good reason to stay in shape. All the training is just injury to be recovered from. Training makes your body more able to recover from whatever injury might happen to it. Does the same philosophy apply to your psyche?
Got the monkey all cleaned up. A nice and powerful spray took care of the mud and muck.
Now it's time for some joe. I need a solid hit of caffeine to keep things on track this afternoon.
