Back to the grind

Tuesday already? Time to get back to work.

Saturday was the 2x20 session with Bobber. Sunday Unit was in, so I took him out to Greensfelder so he could add to his tick collection. After the mongo burrito experience I then spent Sunday afternoon slaving away at the never-ending landscaping project behind my house. By Sunday night I was well beyond cooked.

I considered getting on one of my bikes yesterday for about 3 seconds. That is, the consideration lasted for three seconds. Had I decided to ride I doubt I could have accomplshed anything near that duration.

I still wasn't confident about riding today. I slept really well last night after eating like a pig all day, so partly out of guilt for being a total slob yesterday and partly because I actually did feel at least mostly recovered, I decided to ride.

This was one of those totally unimaginative rides. Just grinder on the trainer. I'm still not convinced I'll be able to do the TT next month. Part of convincing myself I can do it is getting accustomed to the TimeTrial position. I assumed the position and ground out a little over an hour of steady watts.

Peak 60min:
    Duration: 1:00:00 (1:00:36)
    Work: 891 kJ
    TSS: 90.7 (intensity factor 0.953)
    Norm Power: 252
    Avg Power: 248
    VI: 1.02
    Distance: 19.419 mi

Had it not been for the exceptional workout playlist my laptop served up I think I might have gone crazy today. I blew away my USB driver the other day by accident, so my SRM had no way to talk to my laptop and show me my watts. That left me to ponder whatever happened to pop into my head as I pedaled.

Mostly those thoughts were about pain. Not the suffering kind that comes with intensity, but the stabbing kind that my back serves up when it's not happy. In response I stopped three times to adjust my saddle. I raised it, then lowered it twice. On one of those breaks I also adjusted the nose downward a bit.

Do you wonder if I'll ever get it right? Yeah, me too.

You and your saddle...

It is like me and my air pressure...I keep fiddling with it. The pain I get when it is not right is very acute. Still, nothing like a pain in the back...I hope you can get that worked out.

Opposite

I am just the opposite. I will go with the way things are and never adjust anything unless I am really in pain or something. Last year I got some new Look Keo pedals and even though the stack hight was quite a bit higher and Mike (at the shop) raised my seat post to compensate (and suggested I might want to change the bar height), I didn't adjust my handle bars. I started getting some back pain last year and so finally this past winter I turned the stem around. It felt much better actually. But I always tend to just get used to something. This is probably good in some ways, bad in others.

That used to be me

I used to be like that myself. Set it up once and leave it. Since this injury I've done more tweaking than ever before. I'm always in search of the perfect fit that will allow me to throw down as much power as I want, or to ride longer at a given power or in a given position, without hurting my back.
