"Let's play two." ~ Ernie Banks
I really wanted to ride the Bubba series race at the Mount Pleasant Winery in Augusta MO today. I mean, a race where there course goes through the bar! C'mon ... who doesn't want to ride that? But I couldn't. So I did the next best thing: I went for two rides.
I started out by repeating the Marine Loop I'd just done on Friday. On that day, I kind of loafed through the 35 miles in 2:15, a 15.8 mph pace. But after a long layoff, that was the best I could manage that day. Today, I was able to step it up to a 16.4 mph. covering the same route in 2:06. My recent training is obviously paying dividends (wink). Whatever the time, it was great to be out on the roads one more time.
Then I changed into some dry gear and headed out to the SIU-E campus on the cyclocross bike. I rode the rough trails out to Whitesides, then did three climbs. That was enough. Having punished myself, I was ready to watch someone else get punished, so I rode home to catch what was left of the Rams-Cardinals game (wink wink).
I know it's going to get colder, and I may not be treated to another day like today for a long time. I'm glad I was able to spend three hours on a bike today. For now, that's enough.
